Intelligence Brief
Real world asset (RWA) deposits across decentralized finance platforms climbed from $2.3 billion to $7.4 billion year over year during the second quarter, according to research from CoinShares and Token Terminal.
The growth came despite a broader slowdown across DeFi, where total deposits declined 15% over the same period.
The data points to capital moving toward tokenized assets with underlying cash flows and lower volatility, including tokenized US Treasuries, private credit and yield generating financial products.
The contrast suggests investors are prioritizing predictable returns over higher risk crypto native opportunities.

Strategic Assessment
Capital is becoming more selective.
While speculative activity has cooled across much of DeFi, tokenized real world assets continue attracting deposits because they provide exposure to traditional financial instruments while remaining accessible on blockchain networks.
This trend also reflects changing investor behavior. Instead of chasing higher yields, institutions and larger investors appear increasingly focused on preserving capital while maintaining on-chain liquidity.
If tokenized Treasuries, credit products and other regulated assets continue expanding, RWAs could become one of the largest sources of liquidity entering decentralized finance over the next market cycle.
