BitRobot is attempting to solve one of embodied AI’s most expensive bottlenecks: collecting enough real-world training data for robots.
The project evolved from FrodoBots, which allowed people to remotely drive small robots through real cities. That program produced roughly 2,000 hours of robot-navigation data, which BitRobot later open-sourced as FrodoBots-2K. Solana says research teams including DeepMind, Meta and UC Berkeley have used the dataset.
BitRobot’s current model creates specialized subnets for different forms of robotics data, including navigation, manipulation, dexterity, simulation and egocentric video.
Its RoboCap hardware uses six cameras to capture first-person video and hand interactions. Contributors can generate data while performing real-world jobs and tasks, then upload that material to be scored and processed.
BitRobot uses Solana to track who contributed work and to distribute payments. Contributions are weighted based on novelty and usefulness rather than raw volume.
The team is deliberately trying to connect token incentives to real commercial demand. BitRobot President Jonathan Victor said the project focuses on securing AI-laboratory contracts before scaling data supply, rather than assuming a token incentive alone will create a viable marketplace.
