ZetaChain token holders have voted to retire the project’s Layer 1 blockchain and migrate ZETA to Solana, ending its original strategy of operating an independent omnichain network.
Governance Proposal 68 passed with 99.4% support and 58% participation, exceeding the required 40% quorum. Opposition and abstentions each accounted for approximately 0.3%, according to The Block’s review of the vote.
The proposal calls for ZETA to become a native Solana SPL token through a one-for-one conversion. The ticker, total supply and existing vesting schedules are expected to remain unchanged. ZETA issued on Ethereum and BNB Chain is not included in the current proposal.
The network will not shut down immediately. A second governance proposal must establish the balance-snapshot height, shutdown block, claim process and instructions for withdrawing assets connected through the existing chain. ZetaChain says it will wait for exchanges to confirm their migration arrangements before submitting that vote.
ZetaChain raised $27 million in 2023 from investors including Blockchain.com and Jane Street Capital. Its mainnet launched in early 2024 around the concept of allowing applications to interact with assets across Bitcoin, Ethereum and other networks.
The team now intends to concentrate on Anuma, its private AI application. Maintaining a Cosmos SDK blockchain required the project to coordinate security patches across independent validators, while developers concluded that Anuma could operate on Solana without carrying that infrastructure burden.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
This is a strategic surrender of the independent Layer 1 model, not a routine bridge deployment.
ZETA holders face execution risk during the snapshot, exchange conversion and claim process. Any unofficial Solana token address or migration website should be treated as hostile until published through verified ZetaChain channels.
