Hut 8 Co-Founder Moves AI Profits Back Into Bitcoin as Infrastructure Risks Rise

Hut 8 co-founder Marc van der Chijs says he is moving part of his AI investment profits back into Bitcoin as he becomes more concerned about systemic risks created by rapidly advancing artificial intelligence.

Van der Chijs previously shifted much of his investment focus from Bitcoin into AI infrastructure. He now argues that competition between companies and governments is accelerating development faster than effective controls can be established, according to CoinDesk’s interview.

His concerns center on banking software, critical infrastructure and interconnected systems that could contain vulnerabilities exploitable by advanced AI. He considers exchanges and companies built around Bitcoin more vulnerable than the underlying Bitcoin network.

The comments are an investor’s assessment, not evidence of a confirmed attack or immediate banking failure. They are relevant because cryptocurrency mining companies are rapidly converting power and data-center capacity to AI computing while financial institutions deploy automated systems across trading, payments and cybersecurity.

Van der Chijs still expects AI and robotics to reduce costs and automate a large share of current employment. His portfolio shift suggests he views Bitcoin as a hedge against some of the institutional and monetary disruption that could accompany that transition.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

The AI Crypto risk is not limited to autonomous-agent wallets or speculative tokens.

AI systems are becoming part of exchange security, banking operations and critical data-center infrastructure. A failure in those layers could reach digital-asset markets even if the underlying blockchain continues operating normally.

Watch documented AI-assisted attacks, exchange defenses, model access controls, infrastructure regulation and whether institutional investors increasingly use Bitcoin as a hedge against technology-driven disruption.
