Bitcoin remained inside its recent trading range Tuesday, but fresh onchain data points to increasing pressure from profitable short-term holders.
CryptoQuant reported that short-term traders’ unrealized profit margin has reached approximately 33%, its highest level since December 2024. The firm’s research head Julio Moreno said comparable levels have historically increased the incentive for traders to lock in gains. The Block
Realized profits have already accelerated. Bitcoin holders realized approximately 25,700 BTC in profit on September 22, the largest single-day total of 2026, according to CryptoQuant. The Block
At the same time, demand indicators have softened. CryptoQuant said spot Bitcoin demand continues to contract while growth in futures demand has slowed.
The data does not establish that a correction must occur. CryptoQuant’s broader model still classifies Bitcoin as being in a bull market, with its Bull Score Index at 90 out of 100. Bitcoin’s recent close above its 365-day moving average also supports that longer-term interpretation. The Block
Bitcoin traded near $83,500 late Tuesday after recovering from an earlier test near $83,000. The move occurred while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield remained above 5.2%, creating a difficult backdrop for non-yielding assets. CoinDesk
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The onchain picture is not bearish in isolation. It is crowded with profit.
That creates a different risk. When short-term holders sit on unusually large unrealized gains while new spot demand slows, less selling is required to interrupt upward momentum.
The $84,000 to $85,000 area now has additional significance because Glassnode separately identifies it as a major long-term-holder cost-basis cluster. A sustained move above that supply zone would weaken the near-term distribution concern. Failure there while realized profits continue rising would strengthen it. The Block
