Robinhood is beginning to roll out AI agents that can research markets and execute trades from dedicated customer accounts, placing automated financial decision-making directly inside a large retail brokerage.
The agents can analyze securities and cryptocurrencies, construct strategies and submit orders. Users initially choose whether every proposed trade requires approval, but that control can be disabled, allowing the software to act without transaction-by-transaction confirmation.
At the same event, Robinhood announced cryptocurrency perpetual futures for eligible U.S. customers. Bitcoin and Ether contracts will offer leverage of up to 10 times, while more volatile tokens will begin with lower limits. Robinhood’s product notice says both agents and perpetuals are entering a phased rollout. coindesk.com
From Assisted Research to Autonomous Execution
Robinhood opened its infrastructure to third-party AI agents in May. More than 150,000 agentic accounts have since been created, generating millions of daily tool calls, the company told CoinDesk.
The new in-app product removes much of the technical work required to connect an outside model. Customers can select models supplied by OpenAI or Anthropic, assign capital to a separate account and give the agent written instructions.
A planned Loops function will allow standing directions such as checking a market every morning or running a strategy continuously overnight. The system can draw on outside data from Nasdaq, Token Terminal, Unusual Whales and other providers.
These agents are not registered investment advisers. Robinhood Labs supplies the technology, while regulated affiliates provide brokerage, cryptocurrency and derivatives services. The customer remains responsible for the agent’s orders and resulting losses.
Perpetual Futures Enter the U.S. Retail Brokerage
Perpetual futures have traditionally been associated with offshore cryptocurrency exchanges. Unlike conventional futures, they do not expire, and their value is kept near the underlying market through funding payments and other contract mechanisms.
Robinhood plans to provide the products through Robinhood Derivatives and Bitstamp. Its derivatives subsidiary is registered with the CFTC as a futures commission merchant, but perpetual accounts are not protected by SIPC insurance.
Leverage increases the operational stakes for AI execution. A strategy does not need to be wrong for long when a relatively small adverse move can trigger liquidation. Model errors, delayed data, conflicting instructions and market gaps can all produce losses before a user intervenes.
Crypto Market Structure Moves Into Mainstream Brokerage
Robinhood also plans to offer selected U.S. equities continuously through weekends, subject to regulatory review, and will add Cboe contracts tied to corporate earnings metrics. Reuters reported that the weekend service will begin with a limited selection of stocks and exchange-traded funds through Bruce ATS. Reuters
Together, the products create an account that can move between equities, crypto, options, event contracts and leveraged derivatives while operating increasingly independently of conventional market hours.
The convergence cuts both ways. Mainstream brokerages are adopting the continuous markets and perpetual contracts developed in crypto, while crypto trading is acquiring more regulated intermediaries, disclosures and risk controls.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
Robinhood has crossed a consequential boundary between AI-assisted research and autonomous financial execution. Giving an agent authority over crypto and derivatives combines model risk, market risk and operational risk in one retail product.
The critical control is not which model produces the most persuasive analysis. It is whether the account has narrow permissions, effective loss limits, reliable data validation, complete audit logs and a functioning emergency stop.
The strongest adoption signal will be sustained agent-directed volume without a corresponding increase in disputed orders, unsuitable leverage or loss events. A serious incident involving an unsupervised Loop could invite direct scrutiny of how brokerages allocate responsibility between the platform, model provider and customer.
