Dollar-linked stablecoin supply remained above $312 billion on October 4, keeping one of crypto’s broadest liquidity gauges near the upper end of its 2026 range even as Bitcoin traded around $85,000.
DefiLlama-derived data showed total U.S. dollar stablecoin supply at approximately $312 billion on October 4. The same dataset put the seven-day change near 0.6 percent and the 30-day change near 1.1 percent. The series remains below its reported May 17 record of about $320.8 billion. SatoshiMacro
The composition remains highly concentrated. Tether’s USDT accounted for roughly $184 billion of supply, while USDC was around $74 billion. Together, the two largest dollar tokens represented the overwhelming majority of the liquid stablecoin base, although exact dominance varies across datasets depending on which dollar-linked assets are included. Circle’s USDC supply observation for October 4 was approximately 74.07 billion tokens. The figure provides an independent current reading for the second-largest stablecoin, but it should not be interpreted as evidence that all newly issued stablecoins are entering spot crypto markets. Stablecoins are also used for payments, settlement, DeFi collateral and treasury management. USDC.org
Methodology and limitations
Token Recon compared current October 4 supply observations with seven-day, 30-day and 2026 peak readings derived from DefiLlama-based market data. Supply measures outstanding tokens, not exchange buying power actually deployed. Changes in stablecoin supply therefore indicate available dollar-token liquidity, but they do not establish causation for Bitcoin or altcoin price moves.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The stablecoin base is expanding modestly rather than contracting, which removes one potential liquidity warning but does not amount to a fresh risk-on signal by itself. The market remains below its May supply peak, and the recent increase is small relative to the total stock.
A more consequential confirmation would be sustained multi-week supply expansion accompanied by higher exchange balances, DeFi deployment or spot-market flows. For now, the data describe a large and stable liquidity pool, not an acceleration.
