The Mt. Gox rehabilitation trustee has extended the deadline for remaining creditor payments by another year, moving it from October 31, 2026 to October 31, 2027.
The official Mt. Gox notice index states that the change applies to the Base Repayment, Early Lump-Sum Repayment and Intermediate Repayment. The trustee obtained court approval for the extension. Creditors who have completed the required procedures have largely been paid, but some repayments remain unfinished because recipients have not completed necessary steps or encountered processing problems.
The extension reduces the probability of a single near-term distribution event involving all unresolved claims. It does not reveal how much bitcoin or bitcoin cash remains scheduled for repayment during the additional year, and it does not prevent individual payments from occurring before the new deadline.
CryptoSlate’s review of the notice notes that more than 19,500 creditors had received bitcoin and bitcoin cash by March 2025. The outstanding population is therefore not equivalent to the original creditor base, but the trustee has not published a fresh count of unpaid claims alongside the new extension.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The market consequence is a timing change, not debt forgiveness or a new asset sale. The extension spreads uncertainty across another year and weakens October 2026 as a forced-distribution date. The relevant confirmation point is the trustee’s next balance and payment update, which should show how much crypto remains under control and whether repayments continue steadily before October 2027.
