Zcash developers have selected block 3,543,405 as the proposed activation point for Network Upgrade 7, expected around November 5. The change would reduce Zcash block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, cutting the wait for three confirmations from nearly four minutes to about 75 seconds.
The selection appeared in a deployment proposal submitted by developer Sean Bowe after agreement among Zcash Improvement Proposal editors. CoinDesk’s October 21 report notes that the proposed height had two approvals at its cutoff.
NU7 also changes monetary and privacy mechanics. Sixty percent of block fees would be removed from circulation temporarily and returned to miners starting around February 2031. The original Sprout shielded pool would be disabled, making any funds left in that pool unspendable after activation.
The date is not final in deployed software. The official Zcash NU7 page still said the activation height had not been set at scan time, and the deployment specification had not yet incorporated the proposal. Node software must ship the selected height before the upgrade can occur.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The proposal is a material scheduling milestone, not a completed activation. The most urgent user risk is Sprout migration, while the network-level test is whether the chosen block is merged into the specification and supported by released node software. Treat November 5 as provisional until both conditions are met.
