Mural Raises $15 Million to Build Stablecoin Accounts for Software and AI Agents

Mural, a payments infrastructure company founded by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, raised a $15 million Series A led by Tether with participation from North Island Ventures and existing investors. The round brings disclosed funding to $28 million, according to Mural’s October 20 announcement.

The company provides a unified account and API for fintechs, payroll providers and software platforms to hold and move dollars, local currencies and stablecoins. It combines payment rails, identity, compliance policy and approval controls rather than issuing a new token or operating a public blockchain.

Mural says its API has processed $2.1 billion for end users in 128 countries since launching in 2025, with 2026 volume nearly six times its full-year 2025 total. Named customers include Deel, Opera and Axexo. Those figures are company-reported and were not independently audited for this scan, but they constitute more meaningful traction than a testnet or points campaign.

Its AI angle is permissioned agentic finance. The platform offers account limits, approved-counterparty rules and additional approvals for larger payments, allowing software agents to initiate transactions inside constraints set by a responsible organization. That is closer to controlled financial automation than an autonomous token economy.

Token and chain status: No Mural token or TGE was announced. The product connects bank, local payment and blockchain rails; the company does not identify itself as a new L1 or L2. Team and backers: The founders are identifiable, Tether led the Series A, and North Island Ventures participated. Traction: $2.1 billion in reported processed volume, 128 countries and named production customers.

Risks: Mural has not disclosed audited volume, revenue, margins, stablecoin concentration, jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction licensing coverage or loss data. Agent permissions can reduce operational risk but do not eliminate compromised credentials, erroneous instructions, sanctions exposure or responsibility disputes.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

Mural clears the recon threshold because it combines a working product, named customers, reported payment volume, identifiable founders and a verified institutional financing round. Token Recon is watching whether agent controls produce measurable business adoption rather than marketing language. Independent volume evidence, additional regulated partners and disclosed incident rates would strengthen the case.
