BNY is discussing a possible financial-infrastructure partnership with Payward, the parent company of Kraken, according to two unnamed sources cited by CoinDesk.
The potential relationship could cover digital assets, institutional custody, wealth management, trading, payments and business-to-business infrastructure provided through Payward Services.
The talks remain preliminary. BNY and Payward declined to comment, and no agreement, transaction value or implementation schedule has been announced. The report should therefore be treated as attributed deal intelligence, not a completed partnership. coindesk.com
Payward already has a commercial relationship with Nasdaq involving tokenized equities and market-surveillance technology. Nasdaq Ventures agreed in September to invest $100 million in Payward at a reported $21 billion valuation, with Nasdaq Equity Tokens targeted for the second quarter of 2027.
BNY has separately developed tokenized-deposit infrastructure for institutional settlement. Combining its custody and asset-servicing network with Payward’s trading, payments and tokenization stack would create a wider route between conventional financial institutions and digital-asset markets.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The possible scope is more consequential than an ordinary banking partnership, but the evidence remains below transaction status. Confirmation requires a signed agreement and a defined product, client group or production timetable.
If completed, the structure would place Payward deeper inside institutional infrastructure while giving BNY a ready-built set of crypto execution and tokenization capabilities. If the discussions end without a deal, none of the reported product areas should be treated as committed.
