Open interest in XRP futures on Binance has declined to approximately 397 million XRP, marking its lowest level in more than three months, according to CryptoQuant data.
The decline suggests leveraged positions continue to exit the market following recent volatility. Falling open interest typically reflects traders closing positions rather than opening new ones, reducing speculative exposure across derivatives markets.
Unlike periods where rising prices are accompanied by expanding leverage, the latest move indicates that much of the excess positioning has already been flushed from the market.

Market Context
The reduction in open interest comes as XRP attempts to stabilize above key support levels after weeks of selling pressure.
Lower leverage can create a healthier market structure by reducing the risk of forced liquidations and sharp volatility driven by crowded futures positioning. However, it also points to lower speculative participation, meaning stronger spot demand may be needed to support a sustained recovery.
The recent decline in open interest also follows improving on-chain activity, suggesting market participants are becoming more selective rather than increasing leveraged exposure.
Intelligence Assessment
Shrinking open interest is not inherently bearish.
Instead, it suggests the derivatives market is becoming less crowded after an extended period of elevated speculation. Whether that becomes constructive for XRP now depends on who replaces the exiting leverage.
If spot buyers begin absorbing supply while open interest remains subdued, XRP could build a more sustainable recovery. If participation continues to weaken across both spot and derivatives markets, the asset may struggle to generate enough momentum for a meaningful breakout.
