Intelligence Brief
The Bitwise Solana Staking ETF recorded a $267.1 million net increase from capital-share transactions during the first half of 2026, but a $316 million decrease from operations left the fund with fewer net assets than it held at year-end.
Net assets declined by approximately $49 million to $592.3 million. Unrealised depreciation on SOL accounted for $262.9 million of the operational loss, while realised losses reached $70.9 million. Net investment income was $17.7 million, including $19.2 million in staking rewards before expenses.
The fund’s share count increased from 39.18 million to 59.20 million. Its net asset value per share fell from $16.37 to $10.01.
The $267.1 million figure should not be described automatically as investor cash inflow. Authorised participants can settle creations and redemptions in cash or in kind, and the filing does not identify beneficial owners or disclose the settlement split.
Strategic Assessment
The filing separates product adoption from investment performance. More shares and a larger SOL balance did not protect existing exposure from the asset’s decline.
Bitwise benefits from a larger product footprint and staking income. Shareholders carry the market risk, while authorised participants can create or redeem shares through the fund’s operating mechanism.
Staking rewards softened the loss but were too small to offset SOL depreciation. The result also cautions against using ETF share creation as direct evidence that institutional buyers are accumulating tokens with cash.
