ipple has expanded its XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit to support the Machine Payments Protocol, an open standard developed by Stripe and blockchain-payments network Tempo.
Version 1.1 allows software agents to pay for data, computing and other online services using XRP or ledger-issued assets such as RLUSD, according to CoinDesk.
The beta software supports single payments and continuing XRP payment sessions. A session can lock XRP once and authorize smaller payments as an agent repeatedly consumes a service.
That structure could be useful for agents buying individual database queries, inference calls or computing tasks. Processing every micro-payment as an independent onchain transaction would otherwise create additional cost and delay.
Stablecoins such as RLUSD can be used for individual transfers. Extending the continuing-session feature to stablecoins depends on a proposed XRP Ledger upgrade that has not yet activated.
The kit also supports the Open Wallet Standard, allowing an agent to request transactions across supported wallets without directly obtaining private keys. Developers can impose spending limits and restrict approved payment destinations.
Ripple previously added support for the x402 payment standard. Supporting both x402 and MPP positions XRP and RLUSD across two competing machine-payment systems.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
This is functioning developer infrastructure, but it is not yet evidence of large-scale agent commerce.
The strongest feature is separation between agent authorization and private-key custody. The greatest risk is automated spending by compromised or poorly configured software.
Watch named commercial users, transaction volume, repeat agent purchases, stablecoin-session support and safeguards controlling budgets, destinations and revocation.
