Ethena is extending the basis-trading model behind USDe beyond crypto assets by incorporating tokenized U.S. equities and equity perpetual futures on Binance. The Block
Under the expanded strategy, Binance bStocks can serve as the spot collateral leg while corresponding equity perpetual positions hedge market exposure. The structure adapts Ethena’s delta-neutral model to equities rather than relying exclusively on crypto spot and derivatives markets. The Block
The expansion broadens the potential funding sources supporting USDe. Binance reportedly had more than $2.9 billion in equity perpetual open interest around the announcement, while USDe supply was approximately $4.9 billion. The Block
The structure also introduces a different risk set. Tokenized equity liquidity, perpetual-market depth, basis behavior and counterparty concentration could behave differently from the crypto markets on which Ethena originally built its model.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
Ethena is effectively testing whether its synthetic-dollar architecture can expand from crypto-native funding markets into tokenized traditional assets.
Success would widen the economic base supporting USDe. It would also make the system more complex.
The useful signals are not the announcement itself but the amount of collateral actually allocated to the strategy, hedge liquidity during volatile equity sessions, funding-rate behavior and whether the expansion changes USDe’s counterparty concentration.
