Bitcoin Breaks Below $84,000 as Oil, Yields and Long Liquidations Rise

Bitcoin briefly traded below $84,000 overnight after reaching approximately $86,600 on Tuesday. The move left the asset near $84,000 at scan time, with Ether near $2,610 and XRP near $1.46.

The decline coincided with a firmer dollar, rising Treasury yields, and Brent crude above $100 as attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz intensified. Reuters reported on 7 October that Brent was near $101.58 and the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield had reached approximately 5.307%.

Leverage amplified the retreat. The Block reported $555.6 million of crypto liquidations over 24 hours, including $487.2 million in long positions. CoinGlass figures are based on exchange data and can understate aggregate liquidations, but the imbalance shows that the immediate move removed bullish leverage rather than reflecting only spot selling.

Dogecoin led major-token losses at roughly 5%, while Ether fell more sharply than Bitcoin. That pattern indicates risk was leaving the speculative edge first. Federal Reserve minutes due later Wednesday add another macro catalyst after September’s quarter-point rate increase.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

Bitcoin’s first defense is now the $82,000 to $83,000 area. A quick recovery above $84,000 would show that forced liquidations cleared leverage without breaking spot demand. Sustained trading below $83,000 would convert a leverage flush into a more serious failure of the September breakout and expose $80,000. Oil, the 10-year yield, and post-liquidation open interest matter more today than altcoin momentum.
