Moody’s Ratings has assigned Sky Protocol a B3 issuer rating with a stable outlook, the first rating the agency has issued to a stablecoin protocol.
The rating places Sky below investment grade. It provides institutions with a familiar credit framework, but it is not an endorsement of USDS, sUSDS, SKY, or any investment product connected with the protocol.
The Sky Frontier Foundation announcement says Sky is now rated by both Moody’s and S&P Global. S&P assigned a B-minus rating in 2025 while identifying depositor concentration, centralized governance, and weak capital buffers as constraints.
Sky’s institutional exposure has increased. Galaxy recently placed $100 million of sUSDS in its treasury and approved the asset as collateral across its trading operation. Those developments create real use beyond decentralized exchange activity, but they also make reserve quality, governance, and counterparty concentration more relevant to traditional credit analysis.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The rating creates a common language between DeFi risk and institutional credit committees. Its low speculative-grade level is as important as the fact that the rating exists. Improvement would require stronger capital protection, diversified exposure, and resilient performance through stress. Deterioration in reserves or a rating downgrade would affect institutional collateral decisions faster than token-market narratives.
