Wells Fargo is in discussions with Kraken parent Payward about obtaining liquidity for digital-asset trading, according to two people cited by CoinDesk.
The talks could give the bank access to crypto execution without requiring it to construct the full liquidity stack internally. Payward also offers technology that lets financial institutions integrate trading into their own services.
Wells Fargo previously advised Nasdaq on its $100 million investment in Payward. That existing institutional relationship provides context for the discussion but does not establish that a liquidity contract has been signed.
Both companies declined to comment, and the discussions may not result in a deal. No supported assets, customer segment, launch date, jurisdiction, volume commitment, or custody arrangement has been disclosed.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The talks are material because a major U.S. bank is evaluating an established crypto exchange group as infrastructure rather than merely offering clients research or investment exposure. The evidence threshold remains limited to attributed negotiations. A signed agreement, customer launch, regulatory disclosure, or observable flow is required before treating this as an operating bank-crypto trading channel.
