VanEck Abandons Proposed Lido Staked Ether ETF

VanEck has asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to withdraw the registration statement for its proposed Lido Staked Ethereum ETF.

The October 14 withdrawal request says the sponsor no longer intends to proceed with distribution. The filing had never become effective, and VanEck confirmed that no shares were issued, sold or marketed through a preliminary prospectus.

The proposed fund would have held stETH, the liquid staking token issued through Lido, giving brokerage accounts price exposure to staked Ether and its accumulated rewards. VanEck first filed the registration statement on October 16, 2025.

The withdrawal request gives no commercial, regulatory or operational reason. It therefore cannot establish whether demand, custody, staking law, liquidity or another factor drove the decision.

Other staking products remain in the market, so the filing does not settle the broader question of whether U.S. investors will receive exchange-traded access to liquid staking tokens. It does remove one direct route focused specifically on Lido’s stETH.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

VanEck has closed the product rather than leaving an inactive registration on file. The signal is negative for near-term institutional packaging of stETH, but it is not a regulatory rejection. A replacement filing, another sponsor’s product or a clear SEC position on liquid staking would be needed to distinguish a VanEck-specific decision from a market-wide barrier.
