Bitcoin Core 32 Enters Final Testing With Fee, Validation and Security Changes

Bitcoin Core 32.0 has entered its final release-candidate testing period ahead of a stable release currently targeted for October 10.

The first release candidate was tagged September 14, according to the project’s official GitHub release repository. Bitcoin Core is the most widely used software for independently validating Bitcoin transactions and blocks.

Version 32 does not change Bitcoin’s consensus rules. Its improvements focus on how nodes process blocks, estimate transaction fees, construct transactions and protect certain wallet configurations.

The update introduces a fee estimator that considers transactions currently waiting in the mempool. Existing estimates rely more heavily on fees from transactions already confirmed in previous blocks.

Using both sources could allow fee recommendations to decline more quickly when congestion clears. That may help users avoid continuing to pay elevated rates based on outdated block conditions.

Bitcoin Core 32 also makes Partially Signed Bitcoin Transaction version 2 the default for several wallet commands. PSBTs allow multiple parties or devices to coordinate transaction signing without exposing private keys to one system.

Developers addressed a command-execution vulnerability affecting particular authenticated wallet configurations and a memory-exhaustion flaw in the new web-server implementation before the stable release.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

Bitcoin Core 32 is an operational upgrade—not a protocol fork or monetary-policy change.

The most important immediate task is independent testing. Node operators should wait for the stable release and review compatibility before updating production infrastructure.

Watch the final October release, bug reports from the release-candidate period, wallet compatibility and whether the revised fee estimator performs reliably during rapidly changing congestion.
