Bitcoin has broken above the $80,000 position that repeatedly blocked recovery attempts, advancing past $81,000 as falling oil prices, softer Treasury yields and forced closures of bearish derivatives positions combined into a broad risk-on move.
The rally accelerated late Friday. Bitcoin gained approximately 6% over 24 hours, while Ether rose more than 7%, XRP nearly 9% and Solana approximately 13%, according to CoinDesk’s live market coverage.
Crypto-linked equities moved even faster. Coinbase gained 11.7%, Strategy rose 16.4%, MARA Holdings added 13.7%, Securitize advanced 21.7% and Gemini climbed approximately 31%.
The move reverses the immediate market damage following the Senate’s failure to advance the CLARITY Act. Bitcoin fell toward $75,000 after the vote, creating the risk of a deeper breakdown before recovering through $76,000 and eventually attacking $80,000.
Macro conditions provided the first layer of support. Brent crude retreated from approximately $109 earlier in the week to below $103, while the 10-year Treasury yield moved back under 5%. Lower oil and bond yields reduced immediate fears that the Federal Reserve’s new rate-hike cycle would tighten financial conditions faster than markets could absorb.
Bitcoin also advanced through rate increases from both the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan. That resilience does not make higher rates favorable for crypto, but it shows that markets had already positioned for much of the policy shift.
Regulatory developments supplied an additional catalyst. The SEC’s new five-year exemption for qualifying tokenized-stock venues demonstrated that agency-level digital-asset policy can continue even after comprehensive legislation stalled.
The advance was not driven entirely by new spot purchases. Approximately $470 million in short cryptocurrency positions were liquidated over 24 hours, including roughly $238 million in Bitcoin shorts, based on CoinGlass data cited by CoinDesk.
Short liquidation forces traders or exchanges to buy assets to close bearish positions. That buying can accelerate an authentic breakout, but it can also push price temporarily beyond the level justified by underlying spot demand.
Open interest expanded by approximately 5% to $141.2 billion as the rally developed, while daily derivatives volume declined. CoinDesk’s market analysis interpreted that divergence as renewed positional trading rather than purely frantic momentum activity.
Market breadth was strong. Ninety-eight of the CoinDesk 100’s constituents advanced during Friday’s session, with Layer 2, DeFi and Solana-ecosystem assets outperforming Bitcoin.
Solana reached a seven-month high near $112. Jupiter, Raydium and Meteora gained approximately 15%–20%, while Starknet and Arbitrum climbed more than 17%.
The broad participation is constructive because a durable recovery normally extends beyond one large asset. It also increases risk if traders interpret one explosive session as confirmation that every token has entered a sustainable uptrend.
A second weakness remains institutional demand. Public companies added only about 5,900 BTC during the past three months, according to Glassnode data reviewed by CoinDesk. Strategy accounted for most of that accumulation.
That is dramatically below the same period last year, when public companies added more than 100,000 BTC. The reported corporate-treasury cost basis is approximately $80,500, placing the group close to breakeven after Friday’s breakout.
The next test is therefore whether $80,000 becomes support after forced buying subsides. A weekend market can move sharply with thinner liquidity, making the first full institutional session on Monday especially important.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
Bitcoin has achieved the objective that defined the battlefield throughout the week: it broke and closed the U.S. session above $80,000.
That changes the immediate posture from defensive recovery to breakout verification.
The strongest signals are:
- Broad participation across Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, XRP, DeFi and crypto equities
- Falling oil and Treasury yields
- Bitcoin’s resilience after two central-bank rate increases
- A recovery through the corporate-treasury cost basis near $80,500
The principal warning is that $470 million of short liquidations supplied significant forced buying. The breakout must hold after that mechanical demand ends.
Token Recon is watching:
- Whether Bitcoin defends $80,000 through the weekend
- Monday’s spot-market volume
- Spot Bitcoin ETF flows
- Open interest and funding rates
- Whether oil and Treasury yields resume climbing
- Corporate treasury purchases
- Whether Solana and DeFi gains survive profit-taking
- The next major resistance area near the September high around $82,300
The new tactical range is $80,000 to $82,300.
Defending $80,000 would confirm that the former resistance line has become support. Losing it would raise the risk that Friday’s advance was primarily a short squeeze.
