Bitwise Launches First U.S. Spot NEAR ETP With Staking Built Into the Fund

A new crypto asset entered the U.S. exchange-traded market Tuesday.

Bitwise launched the Bitwise NEAR ETF, ticker NRR, on NYSE Arca on September 29, giving U.S. brokerage investors direct exposure to NEAR while allowing the fund to stake the tokens it holds. Bitwise describes NRR as the first U.S. spot exchange-traded product providing direct exposure to NEAR. Bitwise Investments

The fund charges a 0.75% management fee. Bitwise intends to stake its NEAR holdings through its institutional staking operation, with staking rewards reflected in the fund’s net asset value rather than distributed separately to shareholders. The manager cites average NEAR staking rewards of roughly 5%, but those rewards are variable and are not guaranteed. Bitwise Investments

NRR expands the U.S. crypto ETP market beyond the largest digital assets. Bitwise already offers single-asset products tied to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Hyperliquid. NEAR now joins that lineup with a structure that combines spot token exposure and proof-of-stake economics. The Block

The timing is notable. NEAR was trading near $5 around the fund’s debut after climbing sharply from August levels near $1.60. That price performance predates NRR’s launch and should not be attributed to ETF demand. The fund has only just begun trading, so meaningful asset-flow data does not yet exist. Decrypt

The AI Thesis Is Part of the Product

Bitwise is explicitly marketing NEAR as infrastructure for an emerging AI-agent economy.

The asset manager points to NEAR Intents, which allows users and applications to specify desired outcomes while solvers compete to execute them across chains. Bitwise says the system has processed more than $32 billion in volume, compared with less than $1 billion a year earlier. Those figures come from Bitwise and the NEAR ecosystem rather than independent measurement of NRR itself. The Crypto Times

The distinction matters because NRR is not an AI fund. It holds NEAR.

Whether AI agents eventually become a meaningful source of NEAR network demand is a separate technological and adoption question from whether investors buy shares of the ETF.

Staking Changes the Exposure

NRR also extends an important experiment already underway in crypto funds: incorporating network yield into exchange-traded products.

Traditional spot crypto funds generally track the underlying asset’s price. Proof-of-stake assets introduce another economic component because the tokens themselves can participate in network validation.

Bitwise plans to stake NRR’s holdings internally rather than leaving the entire position idle.

That creates potential additional return but also introduces operational, validator, slashing and liquidity considerations that do not exist in a conventional Bitcoin spot fund. Bitwise warns that the product carries significant volatility and could result in substantial or complete loss. Bitwise Investments

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

NRR matters less because NEAR received another exchange listing and more because the investable crypto universe inside U.S. brokerage accounts continues widening.

Bitcoin and Ethereum established the first bridge. Solana and XRP expanded it. A staked NEAR product moves the market another step toward regulated access to smaller network assets whose economics include protocol participation rather than price exposure alone.

The first confirmation point is straightforward: capital. Launch-day headlines establish availability, not demand. Net assets, trading volume and sustained creations over the next several sessions will show whether U.S. investors actually want dedicated NEAR exposure.

The AI narrative deserves a separate test. NEAR’s positioning around autonomous agents becomes economically meaningful only if agent-driven activity produces measurable network usage, fees and value capture. NRR gives investors access to that thesis. It does not validate the thesis.
