Ethereum’s staking exit queue rose above 850,000 ETH on October 2 after MetaMask began withdrawing validators as a precaution following a security incident affecting part of its staking infrastructure. CoinDesk
By Monday morning roughly 786,000 ETH, worth more than $2 billion at prevailing prices, remained queued to leave, with an estimated wait close to 14 days. CoinDesk reported that the queue had been about 166,000 ETH on September 29.
The queue spike does not establish that hundreds of thousands of ETH are being sold. Ethereum throttles validator entries and exits, and Lido expects the affected Ether to be gradually restaked. MetaMask has said it found no evidence that customer wallets or funds were affected. CoinDesk
At the same time, approximately 1.5 million ETH was waiting to enter staking, with an estimated wait near 25 days, down from roughly 2 million ETH in early September.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The headline exit number overstates the bearish signal if most of the MetaMask-related ETH is operationally cycling out and back into validators. The more useful confirmation will be whether the exiting coins move toward exchanges or instead return to staking as expected. Until that destination is established, an exit queue is not a sell queue.
