Ethereum’s Glamsterdam rehearsal has moved beyond activation into a higher-capacity operating test. Sepolia blocks are now running with a limit near 200 million gas, up from approximately 60 million before the upgrade.
CoinDesk reviewed more than 25 consecutive blocks and found utilization between roughly 52 million and 92 million gas, or 26% to 46% of available capacity. The sample therefore confirms block production at the larger limit but does not test sustained near-capacity operation.
During a separate six-minute voting period, all 32 scheduled blocks were proposed and 99.97% of eligible testnet stake voted toward finality. Glamsterdam also changes transaction handoff, data-access patterns, and storage pricing, so the larger gas limit does not translate directly into three times as many transactions.
The Hoodi test is tentatively scheduled for 27 October, subject to Sepolia results. No Ethereum mainnet activation date has been set.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
This is a material update to the prior activation story because it provides early performance evidence at the new capacity setting. The results are encouraging but lightly loaded. The real engineering test comes from sustained blocks near the upper range, diverse client performance, application compatibility, and the Hoodi rehearsal. Mainnet readiness should not be inferred from a low-utilization sample.
