Grayscale Withdraws Cardano, Hedera and Polkadot ETF Registrations

Intelligence Brief

Grayscale voluntarily withdrew registration statements for proposed exchange-traded funds tied to Cardano, Hedera and Polkadot.

The asset manager filed Form RW notices with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for each proposed product. None of the registration statements had become effective, and no securities were sold under them.

The withdrawals were submitted within roughly 190 seconds of one another. Their timing supports the conclusion that Grayscale made a coordinated portfolio decision rather than reacting separately to each asset.

The SEC did not reject the applications. The filings also did not state why Grayscale abandoned the products, preventing a verified conclusion about demand, regulatory feedback or commercial viability.

ADA, HBAR and DOT remain available through other market venues. What disappeared is the immediate prospect of these three Grayscale products becoming US-listed access vehicles.

Strategic Assessment

The withdrawals narrow the near-term altcoin ETF pipeline and remove a potential distribution channel for each asset.

Grayscale avoids the continuing legal and operating expense of maintaining registrations it no longer intends to pursue. Competing issuers could benefit if they continue seeking exposure to the same assets without Grayscale in the field.

Token holders lose a possible source of regulated US access, but the market effect depends on whether another issuer proceeds. A withdrawn registration does not establish that the underlying asset failed a regulatory test.
