Senate Inquiry Demands Cantor Fitzgerald Records on Tether, Sanctions Controls and Lutnick Family Profits

Senator Richard Blumenthal has sent Cantor Fitzgerald a 13-part request for records concerning its relationship with Tether and the financial benefits received by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick’s family.

The October 8 letter gives Cantor until October 23 to respond. It seeks details on the firm’s reported ownership stake in Tether, its reserve-custody arrangement, sanctions and anti-money-laundering controls, and any loan from Tether connected with Lutnick’s transfer of Cantor ownership to his children, Decrypt reported.

Blumenthal is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The request is not a subpoena and does not accuse Cantor or Tether of violating a specific law. Claims about the value of Cantor’s stake and family profits are the senator’s allegations based on press reports and prior staff work.

The inquiry places the reserve bank for the world’s largest stablecoin inside a congressional conflict-of-interest and national-security review. Cantor’s records could clarify the economics of a relationship that connects stablecoin reserves, Treasury markets and a senior administration official’s former firm.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

The present evidence establishes a formal document request, not wrongdoing. October 23 is the confirmation point. A substantive response, refusal, negotiated production or escalation to compulsory process will show whether the inquiry develops into an evidence-bearing investigation.
