Standard Chartered has launched institutional Bitcoin and Ether spot trading in the United Arab Emirates, marking another major step in the integration of digital assets into global banking infrastructure.
The service operates through Standard Chartered DIFC and is regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority. Eligible institutional clients can trade deliverable BTC/USD and ETH/USD through the bank’s existing electronic trading channels.
Standard Chartered says this makes it the first Global Systemically Important Bank operating the capability in the UAE and currently the only global bank providing institutional spot digital-asset trading in the region.
The architecture is important. Clients do not need to adopt a standalone crypto-native trading interface; Bitcoin and Ether can be accessed through familiar institutional FX systems. Clients can settle with a custodian of their choosing, including Standard Chartered’s own digital-asset custody service.
The bank originally launched institutional BTC and ETH spot trading through its UK branch in July 2025. The UAE expansion connects trading, custody and tokenization services to one of the world’s fastest-growing digital-asset financial centers.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The institutional adoption story is moving from Wall Street investing in crypto to global banks directly providing crypto market infrastructure.
The larger signal is not simply another Bitcoin buyer. Standard Chartered is making BTC and ETH execution resemble ordinary institutional FX activity. That reduces friction for funds, corporations and professional investors entering the market.
