Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized 11 rules that will permit locally established Bitcoin and Ether exchange-traded funds to trade on the Stock Exchange of Thailand beginning October 16.
The framework requires a crypto ETF to operate as a passive vehicle and maintain average annual net exposure of at least 80% to a single eligible crypto asset. Bitcoin and Ether are the only assets admitted in the initial phase.
Funds must use qualified digital-asset custodians and comply with organizational, operational and investor-protection requirements. Thai brokers cannot provide margin loans for purchases of the products, and retail investors must acknowledge their risks.
The rules do not initially allow depositary receipts tied to foreign crypto ETFs. Domestic mutual funds and private funds will be able to invest in Thailand-established products under the new framework.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
Thailand is creating a domestic custody and fund-management market rather than simply importing U.S. products. October 16 is the legal opening, not a guarantee of immediate listings. The first approved prospectus, custodian appointment and seed capital commitment will establish whether the framework converts into investable supply.
