Intelligence Brief
Trump Media & Technology Group recorded a $360.6 million realised and unrealised loss on digital assets and pledged digital assets during the first half of 2026. The filing attributes the decline to Bitcoin and Cronos prices falling between 31 December 2025 and 30 June 2026.
The company reported a first-half net loss of $644.0 million, compared with $51.7 million a year earlier. Its second-quarter net loss was $238.1 million on revenue of $1.67 million.
At 30 June, Trump Media held digital assets valued at $597.7 million and pledged digital assets worth $122.1 million. Its unpledged holdings included 9,477.16 BTC valued at $557.1 million and 756.08 million CRO valued at $40.6 million. Another 4,260.73 BTC secured convertible notes, while 2,077.34 BTC was pledged to an options counterparty.
The filing also shows covered calls referencing 1,445 BTC and a covered put referencing 170 BTC at quarter-end. These positions expired in July, so they describe the reporting date rather than the company’s current options book.
Strategic Assessment
Trump Media’s exposure is broader than passive Bitcoin ownership. Collateralised notes, pledged coins and options introduce liquidity, counterparty and execution risks that sit on top of market volatility.
The company benefits if its hedges reduce losses or generate premium income. Counterparties benefit from collateral access. Shareholders carry the residual risk when asset prices fall, hedges perform poorly or pledged Bitcoin cannot be redeployed when cash is needed.
The first-half loss was mainly an accounting and market-value event, but collateral restrictions have operational consequences. Bitcoin securing notes or options cannot be treated as freely available treasury liquidity.
