U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $635.6 million of net outflows on October 22, one session after taking in $524.8 million. Token Recon calculates a negative swing of $1.1604 billion from the daily fund totals published by Farside Investors.
The selling was broad. BlackRock’s IBIT lost $254.1 million, Fidelity’s FBTC $217.5 million, ARKB $109.4 million, Grayscale’s GBTC $29.5 million and Bitwise’s BITB $27.4 million. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT added $2.3 million, the only positive line in the table. Wednesday’s seven-fund breadth disappeared in one session.
Ether funds lost $110.6 million, reversing their brief $14.9 million inflow. Farside’s ether data shows $75.5 million leaving ETHA, $17.2 million leaving ETHB, $10.7 million leaving Grayscale’s ETH and $9.6 million leaving ETHE, partly offset by $2.4 million into FETH. Solana products posted an $8.9 million outflow, according to Farside’s solana table.
Bitcoin traded around $81,700 at scan time after falling below $81,000 overnight. Ether was near $2,404, solana around $105 and XRP near $1.33. The crypto decline accompanied a global risk retreat led by technology shares and rising oil prices, as described in Reuters’ October 23 market report. Daily fund flows establish investor redemptions, not a single cause for the price move.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
The institutional bid failed its first durability test. Wednesday’s breadth looked constructive, but Thursday removed more capital than the prior session added and did so across the largest issuers. Bitcoin holding above $80,000 prevents the flow reversal from becoming a confirmed breakdown, yet a recovery now needs more than one positive creation day. Sustained fund demand and price acceptance above $84,500 would repair the signal. Continued redemptions with a close below $80,000 would show that ETF demand is amplifying, rather than absorbing, the risk-off move.
