Eligible investors can now contribute digital assets directly for shares in ten Grayscale exchange-traded products and trusts instead of selling tokens for cash first. The October 21 announcement covers bitcoin, ether, solana, XRP, dogecoin, avalanche, chainlink, hyperliquid, sui and zcash exposure.
The entry sizes are institutional. Approximate minimums range from $80,300 for the Grayscale Solana Staking ETF to $364,800 for the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF. The zcash minimum was approximately $322,600, XRP $257,000 and ether $232,300 as of October 20. Grayscale says those thresholds can change without notice.
In-kind contribution can reduce the number of market transactions required to move an existing token position into a fund share. It may also make the resulting exposure easier to hold in brokerage, retirement, collateral and estate-planning structures. The process does not remove fund fees, tracking differences, tax consequences or eligibility requirements.
This is not the ordinary ETF creation mechanism becoming available to every retail holder. Grayscale describes access for eligible investors at specified minimums. Prospective users still need product-specific documentation and tax advice before assuming that a contribution is non-taxable or economically neutral.
TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT
Grayscale is building a bridge for large holders who want regulated wrapper exposure without first exiting the underlying asset. The practical test is not the number of products listed. It is whether direct contributions produce measurable creations, tighter spreads and lower execution costs after fees. Fund filings and subsequent flow data should show whether the feature changes assets under management or mostly serves existing clients’ account structure.
