Tether Backs Mural’s $15 Million Bet on Permissioned Payments for AI Agents

Tether has led a $15 million Series A for Mural, a payments infrastructure company building accounts, identity checks and transaction controls for fintech platforms and AI agents. North Island Ventures and existing investors also participated, bringing Mural’s disclosed funding to $28 million. coindesk.com

Mural was founded by former Palantir engineers. Its software connects bank and blockchain payment rails while adding Know Your Customer checks, counterparty restrictions, transaction limits and approval requirements for larger payments. Customers cited by the company include Deel and Opera.

The funding addresses a less glamorous but more consequential layer of agentic finance. Giving software a wallet is simple compared with defining who may authorize a transfer, how a business can stop an anomalous payment and which records prove that an automated action complied with policy.

CoinDesk reported the financing from an announcement supplied by the company. Mural’s adoption claims and customer relationships are company-supplied; no independent transaction-volume data accompanied the announcement.

TOKEN RECON ASSESSMENT

The investable narrative around AI payments often starts with autonomous wallets. The operational bottleneck is permissioning. Mural will have demonstrated more than a funding story when it can disclose sustained agent-initiated payment volume, error and fraud rates, and how often human approval interrupts automation. Those metrics would show whether the control layer works under real financial risk.
